On this page
Choose Markdown when you want health data in files that are easy to read, search, and keep in a notes app. The files work with standard Markdown readers, including Obsidian, without requiring plugins.
What you receive
Manual Export creates a separate .md file for each selected data type, such as Health Metrics, Workouts, Symptoms, or ECG.
Each file includes a short metadata section followed by headings and tables for the selected records. Dense readings and workout series are kept in the document so the Markdown file remains self-contained. Markdown files can therefore be larger than JSON or CSV when you include detailed series over a long date range.
Exact timestamps use UTC ISO 8601 with milliseconds. Calendar dates and grouped periods retain their date or period precision.
Using Obsidian Bases
Every exported note includes a health-auto-export tag and dedicated Health Auto Export properties. In Obsidian Bases, you can filter by that tag, then sort or group files by data type, export version, date range, creation time, or record count.
Each exported file appears as one item in a Base. The measurements and other records shown inside that file remain part of the note rather than becoming separate Base items.
Workout routes
When you include workout routes, route points are included with the workout data. Manual Export can also include the familiar GPX route files for use with mapping and fitness apps.
Automations
Markdown is available for REST API, Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud Drive, and Email automations. Home Assistant and MQTT continue to use JSON, while Calendar continues to create calendar events. Email attachments are limited to 30 MB.
Choosing a format
- Choose Markdown for readable notes and archives.
- Choose JSON for structured integrations and complete machine processing.
- Choose CSV for spreadsheets and tabular analysis.
Workout events and intervals
Version 2 workout notes can include recorded events such as pauses and resumes, segments, laps, and activities. With Include Workout Metrics and distance readings selected, they can also include estimated kilometre and mile splits, with partial splits identified. Interval measurements distinguish recorded statistics from estimates; missing details are omitted. See Workouts for field availability and export requirements.
