Open Browse → Sources to choose which apps or devices supply health metric readings and whether exports include source information.

Choose sources for health metrics

On iPhone and iPad, Browse Metrics, Manual Export, and metric export Shortcuts share these preferences. Each automation has its own independent settings.

These filters do not affect workouts, workout metrics, other exported data types, Recent, Statistics, or data synced to Mac. Nothing is deleted from Apple Health.

  1. In Browse → Sources, select an app or device.
  2. Turn on the metrics under Prefer this source for. Changes save immediately.

Turning a metric off removes that preference; it does not exclude the source.

To ignore a source across all health metrics in these shared settings, turn on Exclude this source. This clears its preferred-metric selections. Turning the exclusion off does not restore those selections; select the metrics again if needed.

You can also choose sources for one metric under Browse → Metrics → Preferred Sources after selecting the metric. Select one or more sources, or tap a selected source to remove it. Changes save immediately.

Include source information

Under Browse → Sources → Source Information, use Enable iOS 27 Sources to include app and device names in exports. This setting also applies to workout metrics and Sync to Mac.

On iOS 27 versions earlier than iOS 27.2, exports may stall or the app may run slowly. Keep Enable iOS 27 Sources disabled on these versions. Updating to iOS 27.2 or later is recommended to avoid these issues.

Disabling this setting does not exclude readings or change your preferred sources.

Automations

  1. Open the automation, select Health Metrics, and tap Preferred Sources.
  2. Choose a metric and select the sources you want to use.
  3. In Excluded Sources, turn on any source you want to ignore across all health metrics in this automation.
  4. Tap Save to apply your changes, or Cancel to discard them.

How selections work

  • All, or removing the last preferred source, allows every source that has not been excluded.
  • Preferred sources are not ranked. Readings from any selected source can be included.
  • Exclusions take precedence over preferred selections.
  • If none of your selected sources have eligible readings, that metric returns no data. Unselected sources are not substituted.
  • Apps or devices with exactly the same displayed source name are treated as one selection.
