Unit Preferences

Health Auto Export allows you to customize the units used for health metrics and workout data in your exports. This guide explains how to configure unit preferences and what options are available.

Overview

Unit preferences control how measurements are displayed and exported in Health Auto Export. You can set preferences separately for:

  • Health Metrics: Individual health data types (e.g., Active Energy, Heart Rate, Weight)
  • Workout Metrics: Workout-specific measurements (e.g., Distance, Elevation, Temperature)

Your unit preferences are saved and will be used for all future exports until you change them.

Use Localized Units: Found in SettingsAdditional SettingsExport Settings. When enabled, the app may use localized unit names and formats based on your device language settings.

  • Consistency: Set your preferred units early to maintain consistency across all exports

Default Units

If you haven't set a preference for a metric, Health Auto Export uses default units.

How Unit Preferences Affect Exports

Your unit preferences are applied to:

  1. Manual Exports: When you export data manually, values are converted to your preferred units
  2. Automated Exports: Scheduled and automated exports use your preferred units
  3. Display: Unit preferences may affect how data is displayed in the app (depending on the view)

Export Format

In JSON exports, units are specified alongside values:

{
  "activeEnergyBurned": {
    "qty": 350,
    "units": "kcal"
  },
  "distance": {
    "qty": 5.6,
    "units": "km"
  }
}

In CSV exports, column headers indicate the unit:

Date,Active Energy (kcal),Distance (km)
2024-02-06,350,5.6

Tips

  • Regional Standards: Consider using units common in your region for easier data analysis
  • Data Analysis: If you're importing data into spreadsheets or analysis tools, choose units that work best with your workflow

Notes

  • Unit preferences are stored per metric, so you can have different preferences for different health metrics
  • Some metrics only have one unit option and cannot be changed
  • Unit conversions are performed automatically when exporting data
  • Workout unit preferences are separate from health metric unit preferences
